Beer In Sri Lanka

Three Coins!!!
Locally brewed beer in Sri Lanka is awesome flavor. Available as tinned and draught beer, I throughly relished the beers on the tap.

Three Coin turned out to suit my palate the best. Perfectly smooth, right blend and the correct temperature made it an ideal drink for me to sip in the humid weather at Beruwala as well as Colombo.

Our stay at Cinnamon chain of hotels became more exciting with various beers available on the tap.
Breeze Bar, Cinnamon Grand

The options of local beer on the tap included Lion, Irish Ale (dark) and Three Coins. Usually for vegetarians it is an issue what to snack on with the beer. Here are a few preparations I enjoyed with my beer in Sri Lanka.
This bar is located by the pool side with live music playing in the evening which makes it a happening place where all nationalities are enjoying their drinks, Sports on tv and laughter and cackle of the kids!

What to eat with beer for a vegetarian especially Indian Vegetarian is a big question every time. Rather than sticking to the regular potato wedges, french fries, peanuts I choose to try out something new and different.
I found veg dimsum goes very well with the beer. Whether you dip in the dip or just take a bite of it with the beer satisfies the palate.
Hummus with Pita bread is another food that goes very with the beer (canned or on the tap). The other dips conflicted with my taste buds but hummus and beer was pleasantly accepted by my palate and brain.
You will be surprised but pineapple with cheddar cheese adds to the balmy weather making it sexier. Maybe the combination with beer is heady and makes you love the sultry weather!

Hope you enjoy the combinations I did for a palatable experience. Do let me know other combinations of your choice so I dont miss out on those delicacies that go with Beer!!!

Vegetarian Indian Foods That Go With Beer

Most people including women in India have now started enjoying Beer. There are various options of beer available in India. Kingfisher, Budweiser, Carlsberg, Hoe Garden, Sand Piper, Tuborg are the few I enjoy only when they are absolutely chilled.

Most vegetarians wonder what to nibble when drinking beer. The taste buds on the tongue get coated with the beer right after the first two sips! Many foods/flavors taste weird when had with beer and spoil the fun of the beer.

My taste buds appreciate the combinations of these foods which I enjoy with my beer every time!

Bhujia Sev goes amazingly well but avoid the Mung Dal with it.

Chivda is a delicious snack to go with the beer. Adding some finely chopped onions, coriander and lemon gives a twist to this simple and sublime preparation called Chivda.

Try boiled salted groundnuts instead of the fried groundnuts, it not only cuts calories but gives a great taste as well. My all time favorite is fried cashew nuts though.

Schezwan Sticks, Manchurian Sticks and Soya stick with beer are a great combination in place of the tried and tested potato chips.

Carrots and Beets are the healthiest options but cucumber is and absolute no-no.

Olives both black and green with or without cheese is a super hit for the tongue and in my view for the brain too :)

A combination of baby corn, mushroom and capsicums in a garlic gravy is another delicious starter to go with beer.

Have a Methi Panner Tikka instead of the regular Paneer Tikka. The Methi Paneer Tikka cuts out the curd flavor in which is it marinated. Curd and beer can be the yuckiest combination rather a punishment for the tongue.

Another Paneer preparation that goes very well with the beer is Black Pepper Paneer. Squeeze some lemon over it but do not eat any onions and then enjoy sipping your chilled beer.

Cheese with Monaco (salted) biscuit is amazing and Cheeslings go best with the beer. Avoid the Jeera biscuit.

Any bread preparation either grilled or toasted goes well. Chilli Cheese Toast, Corn on Toast, Garlic Bread, Herb bread or Sesame Fingers but no Besan Bread or Bread Pakoda in any form.

I enjoy my beer with my main meal as well. It goes well with baked vegetables in white sauce but avoid beer with pasta. Spicy vegetarian Noodles made in Chinese style are a fantastic combination as tingling flavor of the noodles is well complimented by the fizz in the beer.

Only the plain tandoori Roti with veg sheekh kabab goes hand in glove but I would not recommend beer with panner vegetable in the main course.

For the rice eater, veg Biryani with beer is great but avoid the curd/raita I would suggest.

I do continue my experiments with what all goes with beer and will update if i come across some food with beer that made my tongue smile and eyes light up!!!
